Dear Officer Sue Armagost:
I am writing this letter to give my support to the collection of data concerning racial profiling done in Madison on April 23, 2001 during traffic stops. It’s an important start to the ending of it. I believe that racial profiling is a deep rooted problem that often surfaces in the police, and I was delighted to see that officers notice this problem and are concerned and doing something about it! Also I would like to recognize the training the officers went to for half a day about racial profiling; education is the beginning to ending this problem! I am writing this letter to you to also request the push of more racial profiling courses for the officers. I do not feel that half a day of education could possibly be enough for such a deep-rooted problem.
I am pleased to see some chances, but was there a chance in the amount of racial profiling after the half a day of education? Were the officers tested on the knowledge given or required to prove understanding of the matter? I feel that those requirements should be a necessity. If the problem is big enough to have to do a data collection, then it’s bi enough to pursue further education.
I hope that you will take this letter in consideration and push for further education for you fellow officers. Fair treatment is important everywhere, especially on the road. As and individual who had been affected by racial profiling (on the road), I realize the importance of its ending. It is degrading and confusing, and I personally feel that if officers were further educated, they would think much more about their race related actions. Keep up the good work, and I appreciate the help officer’s give!
